After KATU first reported the mugging of an 89-year-old great grandmother Wednesday, many KATU viewers have called, emailed and asked how they can help Marge replace her stolen purse, cash and pay for hospital bills. KATU passed along that contact information and well-wishes to Marge's family.
Portland Police detectives have also now been assigned to investigate. Detectives tell KATU they are getting flooded with tips and are now in the process of tracking down possible video of suspects from the Fred Meyer pharmacy where Marge says she first spotted the woman who mugged her.
Detectives also say they are checking for video at the U.S. Bank branch where a suspect tried to use the stolen bank card.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Marge had just returned home from her neighborhood Fred Meyer store Tuesday and pulled into her driveway when when she noticed an orange 1970s station wagon parked in front of her mailbox.
That's when the 89-year-old great grandmother says a woman got out of the back seat of the station wagon and grabbed Marge's purse.
Marge wouldn't let go.
"It was mine, it was my possession. They didn't have any right to it!" she told KATU News.
She was dragged along the pavement and now has the bruises to prove she put up a fight. She spent the night in the hospital but doesn't have any broken bones, just a bone to pick with the thugs who picked on her.
Marge has a message for the thieves.
"Come back here I'll use a baseball bat on ya. Or I'll use a cane I got over there with a steel head on it. ... You should be ashamed of yourself for what you've done to me and what you do to other people."
"Somebody knocks her down and takes her stuff?" said Byron Brainard who works nearby, "I mean somebody must have seen something."
Brainard says he has his own way of staying safe.
"I just watch my back all the time," he says.
The area where this happened is one of the highest crime areas on Portland's east side. The Portland Police Crimemapper website shows a dark red area in the blocks around where this happened. That means the area had more than 500 crimes reported in the past twelve months, an average of one-and-a-half a day all year long.
Police provided the following suspect description:
A white female in her 30s, 5'7" tall, medium build, riding in the back seat of an orange 1970s station wagon. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Robbery Detail at (503) 823-0405, reference Portland Police Bureau Case Number 13-1808.
