City truck crashes at Yakima Public Works building due to mechanical failure
YAKIMA, Wash. - City officials say no one has been injured after a mechanical failure caused a truck to crash at the Public Works Department.
The vehicle, which leaders say is used for hauling garbage cans, was being worked on outside the Public Works facility's main maintenance building Wednesday morning.
The truck's engine was running while maintenance was being performed, and the transmission engaged while no one was inside.
The truck then moved forward and through a closed rollup door at the main maintenance building, through the building and out from a partially open rollup door at the other side of the building, according to reports.
Leaders said the vehicle stopped when it crashed into an outbuilding near the edge of the Public Works property.
No one was hurt in this incident.
Investigators are working to determine what caused this failure, according to Yakima's Communications & Public Affairs Director Randy Beehler.
Reports state the damage in this crash is minor, and an estimate cost for the damage has not yet been determined.
