YAKIMA, WASH. -- Yakima plans to extend a pathway designed to make it safer for kids walking to and from school. The construction will connect the Powerhouse Canal pathway with the William O. Douglas Trail. It will run through McGuiness Park. The project will cost about $280,000. Yakima plans to use grant money to pay for it. Right now, kids from Garfield Elementary School who walk through the area are forced in the street.
"I'd appreciate that because I walk around a lot on foot," said Khloe Lockridge.
Work is expected to start in the spring and should take about a month to finish.
