Christmas shopping locally may be the best way to go

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The countdown is on, and Christmas will be here before you know it. So, for those of you last minute shoppers, shopping locally may be the best way to go.

“To order things now and get them here on time for the holiday, it’s gonna be a little bit more difficult. Coming into a local retail store like us means that you are able to find something maybe a little bit more unique, not very much more expensive, and you’re gonna have it on time,” said AFOL’s Brick shop owner Don Swayne.

AFOL’s Brick is a local shop that carries hard to find LEGO sets. Swayne says during a crazy time like this, shopping locally keeps things simple.

“When you come into the store here, you know that when you walk out, you have what you need. You’re gonna wrap it, and it’s gonna be ready to go, and you’re done. That's a fantastic thing to experience when you’re in this hectic time of trying to make sure you've got everybody’s perfect gift,” said Swayne.

Inklings store manager Emily Ring says finding the perfect gift should be fun – and it shouldn't be done with the click of a mouse.

“There’s the joy of the hunt. There’s the appeal of finding a unique item that you spot and you just have the perfect recipient for, and I don't think you can recreate that experience through online shopping,” said Ring.

14-year-old Brandy Rojas says she prefers to spend her money locally, instead of taking a chance by shopping online so close to Christmas.

“You get the gift right away. If you order it online, you have to wait a certain amount, and if it doesn't come on Christmas, then you won’t have a gift to give. And it’s more where you can personally feel a connection with the gift,” said Rojas.

Her 10-year-old brother agrees.

“You get to see more stuff and the actual price and online, you ship it,” said Rojas.
