Central Washington State Fair showcases agriculture of Yakima Valley

Central Washington State Fair showcases agriculture of Yakima Valley.

YAKIMA, Wash.- The Central Washington State Fair highlights everything the Yakima Valley grows and right now we are in the middle of apple season and the end of hops harvest.

So of course, there is going to be a lot of those.

Ignacio Marquez, with the department of agriculture, said farmers across the valley also get to show off how important they are to the Pacific Northwest as a whole.

"We still believe that feeding our population here in the state and in the world, is very important, so we believe that ag is the most important industry in the state of Washington," he said.

He works with kids to show them their food doesn't just magically appear in grocery stores.

It comes from years of planting and growing fruits and vegetables until it reaches store shelves.

“For our students and our youth here in the valley it's a great way to really show the work that they do impacts people worldwide," he said.

The fair goes on until this Sunday. For more information on the Central Washington State Fair.
