Celebration of Monsignor John Ecker

YAKIMA, Wash. -- It was a noteworthy day for the Monsignor of Yakima. It was his 80th birthday, 55th year as an ordained priest, and 25th year as a pastor at Saint Paul Cathedral.

Hundreds of people showed up at the St. Paul school on Sunday to celebrate Monsignor John Ecker. People told KIMA, Ecker has helped and formed thousands of relationships in the community.

"It doesn't take much, it takes him walking in a room and he inspires many," said Cathy Kloster. "He touches people's lives and he's the most encouraging person that you could ever be around."

In January, he was saluted as the oldest acting pastor of a cathedral in the United States.
