Catch the meteor at LIGO

RICHLAND, Wash. -- Science buffs and stargazers have a chance to check out LIGO during an upcoming meteor shower.

The facility is home to one of only two mega-lasers in the world. They're used to track disturbances in space with the help of gravity.

LIGO partnered with a local astronomy group to host the event. It will be the first time the earth will pass through the debris of this unnamed comet.

Dale Ingram runs the educational events at LIGO.

"What's going on in outer space that's so interesting that we just enjoy experiencing with the public," he said.

Doors open at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
