Car becomes lodged under semi, both occupants uninjured

YAKIMA, Wash. - Two people have survived a crash with few injuries after their car became lodged under a semi truck.

According to reports from the Yakima Fire Department (YFD), the car and semi truck hauling propane collided around 11:30 a.m., Monday while going eastbound on I-82 near milepost 34.

Wapato driver Henry Gonzalez, 88, was driving a Buick Century when he was merging onto I-82 east from Yakima Avenue and struck the rear of the semi.

Fire crews were able to help Golzalez and passenger Selia Gonzalez, 63, out of the car. Medics took Selia to Yakima Regional Medical Center with non-serious injuries.

The driver of the semi, Renee Valencia, 29, of Wapato was not injured according to Washington State Patrol.

Traffic was backed up past Selah on I-82 as the crews were working to remove the Buick from under the truck, YFD reports said.

Firefighters say the car was a total loss and the semi had some damage in the crash.
