Brush fire contained in Selah

SELAH, Wash. -- A brush fire in Selah kept firefighters busy Sunday afternoon.

At least 30 acres went up in flames. It happened near East Huntzinger Road. Selah firefighters tell KIMA the blaze happened after a homeowner dumped hot ashes in the middle of a field. A combination of wind and dry grass spread the flames.

"This time of year is a little bit dryer and had a little bit more fire season than what we kind of expected initially, but it is going to be a long season if we continue just to burn like this," said Selah Fire Captain Mike Johnston.

The fire was put out after about an hour. Luckily nobody was hurt and no structures were burned.
