Benton City man arrested for stealing Humvee from WA Army National Guard armory

A Benton City man's alleged attempt to join the U.S. Army landed him in the Franklin County Corrections Center.

According to Pasco Police, Kerry Brooks, 24, broke into the Washington Army National Guard armory near downtown Pasco and got inside a military Humvee.

Police say he managed to start the vehicle and crashed it through the gate.

Brooks then allegedly drove the Humvee to the Yakima Training Center. Police say he stopped at the gate and said he had taken the Humvee from Pasco and wanted to join the Army.

Brooks was arrested for burglary, auto theft and malicious mischief.

He had been staying at the Tri-City Union Gospel Mission before the incident.
