Bend teen is first with Down syndrome to reach Everest base camp

BEND, Ore. - A 15-year-old boy from Bend, Oregon scaled Mt. Everest and became the first person with Down syndrome to reach the Nepal base camp.

Elisha (Eli) Reimer and his dad joined a group of people on a climb to help raise money and awareness for disabled children through the Elisha Foundation, which the boy's parents founded in 2005.

The 17,000-foot climb took them 10 days and they completed the milestone just before World Down Syndrome Day on March 21.
