Bale Breaker recognized as official beer for Seattle's Beer of the Week
YAKIMA, Wash.- Craft beer, it's one of the calling cards for the city Yakima and for the first time a Yakima brewery has been named the official beer of Seattle's Beer Week.
Bale Breaker has created their Fresh Off The Farms IPA for the event and sees it as a way to bring attention to all Yakima has to offer.
Kevin Smith is the head brewer and part of the fourth generation of hop farmers from the brewery.
"It's an honor to be the first brewery that has done that and it's a good way to showcase the Yakima Valley and the Yakima Valley Hops," he said.
The beer brings everything that their IPA's are made of and adds a crispness that can be enjoyed during warmer weather.
Select stores have been selling the new beer in cans but they will start serving it in their Taproom starting May 4.
The brewery has been growing hops for four generations and Smith say this is what sets them apart from others in the valley.
"All the hops that we use are hops that we have grown and our families have been growing hops since the 1930's," Smith said.
Seattle's Beer week continues until May 14 and gives people the chance to see some beer the state of Washington has to offer.
Bale Breaker will be at 21 different events in the next couple weeks and the new beer will be available statewide until supplies last.
