Arrest made in murder of Yakima County teacher

YAKIMA SHERIFF'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE -- On April 7, 2013 the Yakima County Sheriff's Office responded to the 300 block of North St Hilaire Road in the Moxee area regarding suspicious circumstances. Responding law enforcement officers located the deceased body of Desiree Sunford inside the residence.

A homicide investigation was initiated. The victim had died of multiple gunshot wounds. Yakima SO detectives have been investigating the case.

As a result of recently received information, Yakima SO detectives assisted by our Violent Crimes Task Force, Yakima area Law Enforcement Against Drugs (LEAD) task force members, Moses Lake police and Grant County Sheriff's deputies, this morning (11/13) served multiple simultaneous search warrants in an around Moses Lake.

During the course of serving the search warrants Yakima SO detectives located and arrested a 27 year old male from Moses Lake and have booked him into the Yakima County jail for the murder of Desiree Sunford. Also collected during the course of the search warrants was additional evidence linking the 27 year old male to the murder of Desiree.

Information will be released as it becomes available.

YCSO did not release the name of the suspect in its news release, but a search by KIMA found a man named Marty Grismer booked into the jail today for first degree murder. It is unknown if his charge is connected to Sunford's case.

On Friday morning, a spokesperson with the sheriff's office confirmed that Grismer is the suspect arrested in connection with Sunford's murder.

KIMA spoke with Sunford's mother, Connie Kast, on the phone Thursday evening to get her reaction to the arrest.

She said, "I am beside myself with every emotion you can imagine. I am relieved that this murderer is finally off the streets. I have thousands of questions as to why."

Today's activity is only an arrest. No one has been found guilty of Desiree Sunford's murder.
