Another fire could be involved in string of arson cases

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Just after midnight on Saturday morning, Yakima Fire responded to a call for a structure fire. A large fire consumed the attached car ports of a duplex on the 1100 block of St. John Street in Yakima.

Everyone was removed from the building safely. The fire spread from the front of the carport to the back and then into the attic space of the living areas. Residents told officials the first thing to catch fire was their pickup truck.

Yakima Fire officials say the fire's cause is suspicious and under investigation. Investigators are working to determine if the fire is related to other recent car fires in the area. YPD is assisting with the investigation. Initial estimates put the total loss at $25,000.
