Another busy year for the DOT

2012 was another busy year for the Department of Transportation here in Yakima County. The DOT began a reconstruction project in the Nile Valley a few years back. That's where a landslide ruined nearly a quarter mile of State Route 4-10. The project finished in August.

A second major project was widening shoulders and lanes on State Route 22 between I-82 and Toppenish. That work costed more than $4.6 million.

"I know there was a couple of things out in Toppenish; they widened the shoulders and stuff like that and I know just being out there before, being a farm boy before, farm equipment and stuff it makes it easier for you to be able to pass," said Michael Loye, who lives in Yakima and drives around the county regularly.

The DOT says accidents have dramatically decreased since the completion.
