16th Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival set to take place
YAKIMA, Wash.- Cinco de Mayo is coming up and the Hispanic chamber of commerce has announced what we can expect for their 16th annual celebration.
There will be horse dancing competitions, a 200 vehicle car show and a parade on Yakima Avenue.
All the money raised from the event will fund scholarships for girls making the jump to college.
Participants for the scholarship will go through leadership training, resume building, public speaking lessons, and college prep throughout the event until the day that the scholarship is presented.
Maria Rodriguez is the chair of the planning committee. She says this is an important event for the Latino community.
"To stay connected to our Mexican culture. In teaching the community this is more or less who we are, this is what we do, this is what we enjoy doing, but it brings everybody together."
The 16th Annual Cinco de Mayo Cultural Fiesta will be taking place on May 6th and 7th in Downtown Yakima.
There is still a chance to volunteer as an individual or a sponsor. To volunteer call the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at (509) 453-2050.
